As you may be aware, political campaigning has been suspended for the last few days out of respect for the victims and their families of the awful attack in Manchester on 22nd May. Our hearts go out to everybody that has been affected by that needless act of violence.
All parties will resume campaigning today (25th May) for the General Election on 8th June. The Conservative party is resuming local campaigning from midday. The national campaign will resume tomorrow. We have not responded to correspondence, media and requests for information under the suspension but we will do our best to catch up now. We are also working to rearrange events that had to be cancelled. Please bear with us in this regard as your support is gratefully appreciated.
The Prime Minister, Theresa May, will continue to work with the security agencies, police and military to keep the country safe. We wish to give thanks to the emergency services for everything they have done to help the victims and continue to do for all of us.
Finally, please note that there is a book of condolences for people to sign at Southwark Council offices in Tooley Street and see the Ministry of Justice website for details of support available (http://bit.ly/2qRd0Lz).
The messages and notes I have received and read since the attack on Monday night is indicative of the strength and compassion of people in Bermondsey and Old Southwark and the UK. Hate will not win.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
